Dr. Georgi Bigatovski: I would like any achievement of GLS and RLK to reach each of our members

_ Georgi Bigatovski graduated from the Medical University in Plovdiv in 1996. Specialty General Medicine acquired in 2003. Honorized Assistant was at the Department of General Medicine at the Medical University in Plovdiv and for 21 years worked as a general practitioner in the city under the hills. Last year he received a prestigious distinction from the European organization of General and Family Medicine Wonca Europe, and in June this he was elected Chairman of the RLC of the BMS - Plovdiv at the conducted reporting assembly of the professional organization.

- Dr. Bigatovski, why did you choose to deal with medicine?

  • As a child I was a mathematician. At one point, however, I will desire to do so that the relatives of the other children - grandparents, their mothers and fathers are alive and healthy and not die. In general, so I chose medicine. I decided there I would be able to be more useful and I could make a contribution.

- And why you headed for general medicine?

  • When I started work, there was still no general practitioners. I started as a section therapist and a therapist of an urgent cabinet. I took the emergency cases in one of the neighborhoods of Plovdiv, where my office is still located. When the health reform is done I already had a work experience as a doctor. Then I realized that I have different interests in various fields of medicine and I am not ready to give up none of these areas. I did not want to sink only in a narrow area, to deal with a few diseases and that's all.

I wanted to look at the patient in his entirety - to take care of him and his family. To look at each problem from any point of view - both biological and social, and purely medical. Then the general medicine appeared and I realized that I could achieve what I want.

- Recently you were elected by my colleagues as Chairman of the District Medical College of the Bulgarian Medical Association in Plovdiv? What responsibility is behind this post?

  • For me, this is a great responsibility. Ultimately, the mission of the District Medical College is to provide better conditions for both patients and their treatment and doctors themselves, while respecting the moral and ethical norms inherent in the profession. On the one hand, I represent all about 3,800 physicians in Plovdiv in front of different institutions, which is a great responsibility and on the other hand, the Governing Board brings policies in any such area concerning the medics. I personally think that the medical college should have an active position on matters important to society and, of course, to defend the rights of doctors, protecting the principles of profession. On this and I will bet in my three-year term.
