Summary of lecture

Regenerative medicine is the innovative concept of the 21st century, which allows structural and functional recovery and is the basis for increasing duration and quality of life. In the ophthalmology, the quality of life is measured with three main indicators: visual, perceptual and cosmetic comfort. The completeness of this comfort is achieved by preserving homeostasis at the front eye surface. Regenerative therapies of the front eye surface are directed to the three levels of comfort and are based on auto-biological products. Perhaps the oldest biological therapy is the transplant of an amniotic membrane. Today, the products based on an allogeneic amniotic membrane are applied in the form of various transplants and articles in original, liquid or dry form. Each of these applications has advantages and disadvantages and should be selected by a personalized approach for each particular clinical case. Although, in the ophthalmology, alcello products are most commonly used, auto-derived biological therapy is becoming increasingly increasing popularity due to excellent results. At present, different serum and enriched serum products are applied. In the context of regenerative medicine, it is important to emphasize that the Lima (the border between corneal and sclera) contains stem cells with differentiation potential and structural construction of epithelium, stroma, endotel. This allows laboratory products with multiplied lime stem cells to activate the regenerative potential of the whole cornea and mediate structural and functional recovery. This innovative therapy can be performed with cells from the healthy eye of the patient or donor. At present, worldwide this is the most successful method of treating severe degenerative diseases, traumas, rare diseases and other pathology violating corneal integrity.

It is important to know that these therapies are very dependent on the will of society for donation of tissues and cells. In the corneal ophthalmology, the sclera and the lambal stem cells are taken in Morthem and the amniotic membrane is donated by mothers in which there is a sequence test. Although donor is tissue, there are often refusals and this determines the long waiting leaves. Everyone has to realize that donation is an invaluable act of nobility and with the help of modern science a donor gesture can cure many people.
