Dr. Ivan Madjarov: Medical salaries to rise according to the growth of clinical paths

Medical salaries should be indexed against inflation and growth of clinical pathways. This is one of the proposals made by a group of economists, commissioned by the Bulgarian Medical Association (BLS), Dr. Ivan Madjarov, chairman of the professional organization, said in the program "This Morning".

"The Bulgarian Medical Association is making a third attempt to change the way hospitals are funded and at which the salaries of doctors are calculated. So far attempts have been made by doctors who are included in working groups. They did not meet approval by the authorities. We have submitted our proposals to almost every government, "he explained.

Dr. Madjarov reported that this time the initiative is from the Health Minister who created a working group for the valuation of medical work. "We have decided to submit a proposal that will be made specifically for us by a group of economists. We have assigned them the task of giving us an economic model that is difficult to compromise and attack that can be upgraded and also sustainable over time, "he explained.

All work is 94 pages and offers: the introduction of positions and ranks for doctors similar to Germany. Economists also pay attention to serious disproportion in pay in different regions and hospitals. There, economists suggest a supplement from the state.

"The authors of the model suggest that the doctors' work should be indexed with half the growth of clinical pathways or the prices of examinations and 50% of the annual inflation. This means that with 10% inflation and a 10% increase in clinical pathways, salaries should be indexed by 10%. However, it is important to emphasize that what economists offer are basic salaries. They should be charged a class for the time, for adverse working conditions and the DMS, "explained Dr. Madjarov.
