Who will treat us? Deficit of doctors and nurses

About 60% of doctors in Bulgaria are over 50 years old, and at the same time, only 12% are young doctors under 30. This was stated in the program "Small Stories" by the deputy chairman of the BMA Prof. Hristo Shivachev. The problem is huge and due to a complex of causes. According to the Medical Union, the average age of the doctors in Bulgaria is 53 years. One fourth is in retirement age. In general practitioners, the trend is even more worrying, they are among the most aging groups of doctors. The average age is 58 years. Every third is in retirement age.
